Happy New Year, everyone!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
I have decided to continue my blog this year. Instead of the blog of "Julie and Juila" written about Julie Powell cooking all the recipes from Julia Childs' cookbook, I am going to blog about my progress with excerise and getting FIT! Then, if I do not keep up with it this year, you can all kick me in the butt!!
So, on January 1, 2010, I joined the Pittsford YMCA. It is 2.2 miles from my house. I actually had belonged in the past before my work schedule got so crazy, and then I switched to walking in my subdivision 2 miles a day, and then to walking as part of Weight Watchers with Laurie, and on the Erie Canal path, with my friend Chell, which was enjoyable, and consistent. Then, when I broke my ankle this summer I was not too mobile for a couple of months, and then went to physical therapy twice a week. That really helped my balance and strength, but I think I am ready for the gym. I have paid $750.00 in copays to PT, and might better put that in the future to the gym, since they have the same equipment I have been using in PT. At least that sounds like a good plan!!!
So, yesterday I went to the YMCA and swam 44 laps. I thought that was a mile, but actually 32 lengths is a mile, so I was an overachiever! Sat in the whirlpool for 15 minutes, and then did 15 minutes on an exercise bike and 15 minutes on a stairstepper. Today I did 40 lengths in the pool, and 30 minutes on the exercise bike. I have to remember to bring some earphones to listen to the music or watch the TV while I am in the fitness center. So, after that, I had water, coffee and a banana. So, I will blog how my progress is coming along. I want to be in good shape before I go to Alaska in May. I found that the swimming actually made my leg feel good. I could feel the work on the bike, but no pain, so will continue the low impact stuff and especially the swimming. The Y opens at 5:15, so it is a question if I go swim for a half hour before I go to work, or after work. It takes a month they say to change behavior, so I will just have to make sure I have changed into good habits.
My New Years' Resolutions:
1. Continue with a fitness program to increase endurance, get in shape and loose weight.
2. Spend more time with my relatives and good friends for fun and healthy relationships. Cherish my friendships.
3. Trust the Lord to look after my needs, and pray every day. Do more with my church friends this year.
4. Balance my work time better and don't feel I have to be everything to everybody at work. Try to remember that it is a team and not a solo effort! Don't feel bad when you have to say NO!
5. Eat healthy and remember to consume 5 fruits and veggies a day!
6. Organize my house better and clean out what I am not using. Donate to charity.
7. Volunteer and help others.
8. Finish projects--quilting, knitting, crafts. Lots of things are waiting for me to finish!
9. Stop enabling people. In order to accomplish what you need to in your own life you sometimes have to be selfish with your own time and efforts.
10. Don't be afraid to ask others for help when you need it. Friends do appreciate being needed!
11. Become politically active.
So, that sounds pretty good! Remind me if I do not appear to be on track to keep these goals for the year~
Happy New Year friends and family!
